چکیده

The effect of locally induced cerebral ischemia on regional cerebral blood flow before and during elevation of Paco2 was measured qualitatively in anesthetized dogs by a thermistor probe technique and a photographic method involving cerebral angiography. The flow response to changes in systemic arterial pressure was also noted in the ischemic zone. Increased Paco2 resulted in increased flow to the ischemic zone and shrinkage of the area of ischemia, by virtue of collateral circulation from other arterial trunks. In no instance was "intracerebral steal," as previously reported, noted in response to increased Paco2, though there was no means of determining if the quantitative response in the ischemic area was similar to that in normal brain. Arteries and arterioles in the ischemic zone were seen to be constricted and irregular, rather than maximally dilated, as has been proposed. The percent decrease in pressure in the occluded arterial segment was much greater than in the patent cerebral arteries. Response to increased Paco2 occurred even though intraarterial pressures were less than 40 mm Hg. There was preservation of the response to norepinephrine in the ischemic zone, despite reduction in flow; response to changes in Paco2 persisted even after this had been lost. ADDITIONAL

Investigating the Relationship Between End Tidal Carbon Dioxide and Arterial Carbon Dioxide Pressure in Patients With Respiratory Distress Referred to the Emergency Room of Hazrat Rasool Akram Hospital

Background: Measuring End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide (ETCO-2) can be a non-invasive, fast, and reliable method to predict partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) in patients with respiratory distress. This method, which can be a suitable substitute to measure PaCO2, is being used in many emergency rooms and operating rooms in developed countries, but its exact relationship with PaCO2 has not been ...

Comparison of the Effects of Open and Closed Endotracheal Suction on Cardiovascular and Ventilation Parameters for Patients Undergoing Mechanical Ventilation

Background and Objectives: Suction is a necessary and common method which aids in the release of secretion from the respiratory system for the patients who have undergone mechanical ventilation. One of the most common complications of suction is hypoxemia which causes dysrhythmia and death. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of open and closed-endotracheal suction on cardiov...

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall

Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been  introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the  substitution  of  the  blood  pressure  changes  in  the  central  arteries  such  as  carotid  with  the  blood  pressure  changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...

Intensification of brain injury and blood-brain barrier permeability by short-term hypertension in experimental model of brain ischemia/reperfusion

Introduction: Arterial hypertension is one of the causes of stroke, and as one of the vasculotoxic conditions intensifies ischemic stroke complications. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of short-term cerebral hypertension on ischemia/reperfusion injury and pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. Methods: The experiments were performed on three groups of rats (N=36) Sham, cont...
